About Galib Mammad

Galib Mammad is a proud Azerbaijani-American. No matter where his quest for knowledge takes him around the globe, he is someone who never forgets his origins or his purpose in life, which is to help others succeed. He is someone who is more than happy to be out of the spotlight, while lifting others up to let them shine.

Galib grew up in a remote town of Azerbaijan. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a diplomat one day. He left that small town in pursuit of dreams and education. Right when Galib graduated, he found himself at the crossroads of history. The Soviet Union collapsed, and his country of Azerbaijan became independent. Galib Mammad became one of the first diplomats of independent Azerbaijan. Education took him out of a small town and gave me a chance to realize his dreams. Independence set him on a path in life and let him reach heights all over the world.

In 1992, Galib Mammad started to work as a Special Assistant to Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan. He designed and implemented multiple tasks including scheduling, protocol, public relations and interpretation for the Foreign Minister. He participated in international meetings as a full-fledged delegation member of Azerbaijan. Later that year, he was promoted to work in The Office of the President of Azerbaijan, where he managed the first-ever Public Relations Department, while also interpreted confidential meetings of the President with heads of state.

In 1993, Galib Mammad earned the diplomatic rank of Second Secretary and came to the US with a small group of diplomats to establish Azerbaijan’s first Embassy in Washington DC. He served as a Special Assistant to Ambassador in charge of multiple tasks. He was Embassy’s main liaison with Departments of State, Energy, Commerce, Defense, and National Security Council. While at the Embassy, Galib Mammad helped to engineer commercial affairs, facilitated trade promotion and market development.

In 1996, Galib Mammad became Founding Executive Director of The United States-Azerbaijan raised funds, led trade missions, organized investment conferences, oversaw public relations. Galib Mammad launched USACC with $5K seed money and expanded it into an organization with over 70 corporate members and annual budget exceeding $1M. He facilitated entry of some 50 corporations into Azerbaijan and provided strategic counseling for their acquisition of multi-million-dollar contracts. While at USACC, Galib also established The Caspian Studies Program at Harvard University with a $1M endowment and launched Humanitarian Mission to construct 22 classrooms in Azerbaijan’s refugee camps.

In 2000, Galib Mammad developed the concept of and established the only Azerbaijan Trade and Cultural Center (ATCC) in the U.S., a multi-functional facility housing Azerbaijan Gallery and USACC offices. Galib raised capital in less than 3 months and devised strategy to purchase four-floor historic mansion worth over $1M to host ATCC. He administered ATCC, including acquisition and sales of exhibits, design and organization of cultural and commercial programs.

In 2007, Galib Mammad came back to Azerbaijan to help build ADA University from scratch. He played a key role to conceptualize Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) and then, to expand it into ADA University. Galib Mammad designed and supervised construction of state-of-the-art campus of ADA University, oversaw development and expansion of programs, developed partnerships with schools elsewhere in the world, raised funds for operating and endowment purposes. He served as Senior Vice Rector of ADA University for 11 years through 2018.  

In 2007, Galib Mammad set up ADA University Foundation in the US. He has managed it part-time since then. The Foundation is a nonprofit corporation organized for charitable and educational purposes to support ADA University in creating and maintaining educational activities and programs in Azerbaijan and the USA. It is also an endowment-building arm of ADA University. ADA University is an institution that is close to Galib’s heart. He has not stopped to support its future growth.

Since 2004, Galib Mammad has owned and managed a limited liability company of international trade and investments with offices in the USA. The firm helps businesses to enter and succeed in the highly competitive markets of Azerbaijan and neighboring region. It supports clients at every stage of strategic planning, risk and project management, market development, sales and operations.

Galib Mammad has studied in Azerbaijan, Russia, USA, Argentina and Italy. In 1992, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Humanities at The Institute of Foreign Languages in Nizhniy Novgorod in Russia. In 1993, he continued his education at Georgetown University in Washington, DC at the School of Continuing Education. In 2004, Galib Mammad earned his MBA from Emory University Goizueta Business School in Atlanta, Georgia. While at GBS, he also studied at Universidad Torcuato di Tella in Buenos Aires, Argentina and SDA Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.

Always a perpetual learner, Galib is fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Turkish and Azerbaijani. Galib Mammad currently resides in Washington, DC. He is married with two children.
